Some of the best dive sites of Maldives

Maldives a tropical hideaway which lies in the indian Ocean is home to 100's of dives sites and dozens of them ranging in wold class standard. If you are a scuba dive goer it is a destination which should not be missed. Where you can explore the the channels that attract school of fishes , dive with Mantas and Sharks . During your dive tour in maldives with liveaboard or your dive holiday in guest house these are some of the sites which you can be lucky to explore and see the wonders of it ; . There are plenty of more excellent dive sites in Maldives which we wil also try to list down gradually more sites  ;
Site Name: Maagiri 


Location: North Male' Atoll 


Features: A huge pinnacle, very shallow on top reef 10-15 ft, 3 – 5 meters in depth. On one dive manageable to explore ½ of the pinnacle. Goes down to 30-35 meter. One part of the reef covered with sandy slope bed with over hangs with shallow depth of 15-20 meter


Coral Growth: Gorgonian, Anemone, Hard Corals and Soft horny corals 
Fish Life: Very good – Murray Eel, Lion Fish, Jacks snappers, Turtles, Angel fish, Eagle Rays. Etc.

Site Name: Rainbow Reef 
Location: North Male' Atoll (tributary Channel) 


Feature: A deep pinnacle which the top platen goes 10 meters – 30 ft in depth. A drop off goes with over hangs at wall depth 15-20-25. the bottom of the pinnacle is 30-40 meter, 100-120 ft. Entire over hangs full covered with different colored soft corals. Generally strong currents. 


Coral Growth: Especially for soft corals. Top reef hard corals. 

Fish Life: Schooling Jacks, Red snappers, Eagle Ray, Lion Fish, Scorpion fish, Trigger Fish, Angel Fish, Butterflyfish.Etc..


 

Site Name: Okobey Tila or Baracuda Giri 

Location: North Male' Atoll (inner reef) 

Features:
A huge pinnacle, which could explore ½ of the pinnacle on a dive. Shallow on platen 25-30 ft / 7 – 10 meters in depth. Huge pile of 3 rocks sitting on the East side of the pinnacle at a depth of 110 ft / 35 meter . 

Coral Growth: Soft Coral, Fielding soft coral, hard coral on top reef- Gorgonian wip corals. 

Fish Life: V good – Barracudas, Napoleon, Fusiliers, Bannet fish, trigger Fish, Jacks snappers, Angel Fish, Sweet lips, Reef sharks, scorpion fish. Etc..

Site Name: Lankan Manta Point 

Location: North Male' Atoll (outer reef) 

Features:
Outer reef wall dive. Top reef 20-30 ft/ 7-10 meter, slope wall goes down to a bottom of 100ft/30 meter, very slope bottom goes to the deep sea. Huge 3 hat corals sitting on the side of the slope wall 15-28 meter. 

Coral growth: Hard corals. Manta Cleaning Station. 

Fish life: Mantas, huge schools of bulls eye fish, oriental sweet lips and napoleon wrasse, plus heaps of turtle and various species of moray eels. Etc.

Site Name: Banana Reef 

Location: North Male' Atoll (inner reef) 

Features:
A small pinnacle which top reef is very shallow 10-15ft /3-5 meters in depth. A huge cave from 15 meter to 25 meter depth. As well running over hang at sitting on the side of pinnacle at a bottom of 100ft / 30 meter. 

Coral growth: Hard coral and soft corals 

Fish Life: Abandon all kind of fish life: Schooling snappers, sweet lips – Napoleon, white tip reef sharks. Etc..

Site Name: Victory Wreck 

Location: Sitting next to the Airport (North Male' Atoll) 

Features:
A 150 meter / 450 ft Cargo freighter went down on 1981. Sitting on the side south west side of the Air port at a depth of 45 meter -130 ft. the ship setting up right and the shallowest part the accommodation at a depth of 18metere – 60ft. 

Coral Growth: Hard corals, Patch Corals Black corals, tubastrea corals- acropora 

Fish Life: Fusiliers, Jacks, Tuna, Batfish, Lion fish, Parrot Fish, clown fishes, scorpion fish etc..

Site Name: Embudhu Express 

Location: South Male' Atoll 

Features:
Outer reef tributary pass, reef top shallow in depth 7 meter – 21 ft slope wall goes down to the ocean- pass entrance ledge 35-40 meter. 110 – 120 ft. Inner wall drop off with some over hangs. Inner reef bottom 35-110 ft with hard corals. 

Coral growth: Hard corals. 

Fish Life: V.good. Specially for bigger fishes- sharks, schooling jack, schooling Eagle Rays, Sting Ray, Barracuda, Napoleon, Tuna etc..

Site Name: Kasimo Wreck 

Location: South Male' Atoll 

Features:
Inner reef pinnacle, fairly small which is able to explore around in one dive. A Japanese fishing trawler sitting at the base of the pinnacle at a depth of 25 -35 meter / 75 ft – 110 ft. The top reef goes shallow in depth 10 to 3 meter 
Coral Growth: Basically finds different species of soft coral, hard coral on the sloppy side of the reef 

Fish Life: V. good Fusiliers, Angel Fish surgeon fish, trigger fish, butterfly fish, bat fish clown fish. anemones etc..

Site Name: Cocoa Corner 

Location: Outer reef south Male' Atoll 

Features:
A slope outer reef wall, top reef shallow 24-30ft/ 8-10 meter in depth slope goes down 50 meter/150 ft down to the deep sea. Channel ledge goes 40 meter /120 ft Inner wall with shallow over hangs. 

Coral Growth: Healthy reef, with variety of hard and soft corals. 

Fish Life: Generally for bigger patrolling fishes, Napoleon, Tuna, Turtle, Sharks Jacks, Snappers Murray Eel, Sting Ray, Eagle Ray & etc..

Site Name: Guradhoo Corner 

Location: South Male' Atoll 

Features:
An outer reef wall top ledge 10 meter 30 ft goes slope down 50 meter – 150 ft down to the open sea. Forming a reef tongue to the entrance of the channel at a depth of 40 meter 120 ft. Inner wall drop off with over hangs. 

Coral Growth: Hard coral, hard ground 

Fish Life: Especially for bigger Fishes sharks Napoleon, Tuna, Sting Ray, Eagle Rays. Etc..

Site Name: Miyaru Kandu 

Location: North Felidhe Atoll 

Features:
A tributary atoll pass, outer wall goes drop off, entrance 35 metere/110 ft inner walls goes slope ending the reef to a sandy bottom beach forming a bay. 

Coral growth: Hard Corals 

Fish life: Sharks, schooling jacks, Barracuda, Napoleon, schooling Eagle Rays. Etc..

Site Name: Golden Wall 

Location: Mid East Felidhe Atoll 

Features:
A tributary channel outer reef goes slope entrance blocks of rocks, fully covered with soft corals and forms inner wall which is a slant horizontal drop off wall. Top reef 2 meter – 6 ft. goes down to a base bottom of 30 meter – 100ft 

Coral Growth: fully covered with golden colored soft corals. 

Fish Life: Generally for small fish's emperor angle, Unicorn fish, sweet lips, butterfly fish, titan trigger fish, flat worms, Murray-eel, lion fish. Etc..

Site Name: Cherry Caves

Location: East Extreme end of atoll 

Features:
A tributary channel with a slant drop off wall goes down to 100-200 ft, 30 to 60 meter. Caves at different depth. One reef tongue, huge over hangs and run through 

Coral Growth: Hanging florescent color soft corals. Gorgonian and black corals, Hat corals on the side of inner wall. 
Fish life: Sharks, Hammer Head Sharks, Eagle Ray, Napoleon, Tuna, Groupers, Titan Trigger. Etc..

Site Name: Rakidhoo Pass 

Location: South Extreme – Felidhe Atoll 

Features:
A tributary channel, inner part of the reef a drop off, top reef shallow 7 meter- 21ft goes down 40 meter -120 ft. Reef corner, with multi depth over hangs caves join to outer wall which goes a slope down to the deep sea 80 metere-240 ft 

Coral Growth: Very Healthy, Hard corals, brain corals the over hangs –gorgonian 

Fish Life: Huge Schooling jacks, Dog tooth Tuna barracudas, Turtle, Eagle Rays, Napoleons groupers, and Trigger fish – Fusiliers, Anemones, etc..

Site Name: Boli Rock 

Location: West Felidhe Atoll 

Features:
A Shallow Pinnacle lying huge pile of rocks. Bottom ledge 35 meter – 110 ft and adjacent to outer wall, which is a drop off goes down to a bottom of 40 metre-120 ft . Reef top goes shallow in depth of 7 meter -20 ft 

Coral Growth: Very Healthy soft corals on the main wall and as well on the rock. Wip coral under the over hang. Hard corals found at the top reef 

Fish Life: Sharks, Napoleon, sweet lips, Jacks, Lion fish , groupers, parrot fish, bannet fish.etc..

Site Name: Kuda Rah Tila 

Location: South Ari Atoll 
Features:
Deep pinnacle platen depth 45-50ft, 12-15 meter goes to bottom of 40 metere-120 ft. one side huge over hang at a depth of 21 meter- 70 ft. huge pieces of Rocks sitting on the side of pinnacle. 

Coral Growth: Very healthy soft corals, gorgonian field 

Fish Life: Sharks, Jacks, Tuna, Blue Strip Yellow snappers, flat worms, nudi branches, and sweet lips etc..

Site Name: Rangali Manta Point 

Location: West Ari Atoll 

Features:
Tributary pass, inner wall a drop off of 35 meter – 110 ft, covering stretch over hang wall goes slope 10 meter – 30ft platen. Goes slope down to 40 meter/120 ft 

Coral Growth: Hard corals – Table Corals 

Fish Life: Manta Clean station, Turtles grouper yellow snappers, clown trigger fish, bannet fish. many more..

Site Name: Digga Tila 

Location: Mid Ari Atoll 

Features:
Inner Atoll huge pinnacle, which could explore 2/3 on a dive. Top platen shallow 10-15ft /3-5 meter. One end goes sandy slope down to 25 meter- 80 ft . 3 side of the pinnacle goes drop of down to 35 meter-110ft. Over hangs at multi depth. Specially on shallow depth 10-20 metere/30 -60ft 

Coral Growth: Hard and soft corals and very healthy 

Fish Life: Garden eels, Murray eels, lion fish, scorpion fish, fusiliers, parrot fish, trigger fish. Etc..

Site Name: Malos Tila 

Location: North West Ari Atoll 

Features:
A huge pinnacle, sitting on front of the channel. The top reef deep on a depth of 45-50ft/12-15 meter. Entire reef covered with multi dept huge over hangs. The atoll bed 35-40 meter-120 ft 

Coral Growth: Fully covered with beautiful bluish soft coral hanging on the ceiling different kind of acropora coral, table coral fully live covered on top reef 

Fish life: Specially for small coral fishes, sweet lips, butterfly fish, dimsel, Bennett fish, Nudi Branchs etc..

Site Name: Fesdo Wreck 

Location: Mid Ari Atoll 

Features:
A fishing trawler, sitting on the bottom of a small pinnacle, pretty deep on depth which top plateau 45-50ft / 12-15 meter. The base of the pinnacle is 30 meter-100ft sandy. The wreck is sitting upright and the shallowest part of the ship accommodation goes 18 meter – 60 ft. 

Coral Growth: full covered with live beautiful soft coral, Gorgonian, wip coral, black coral & horny coral as well different species of acropora. 

Fish Life: Fusiliers, Angle fish, trumpet fish, Anthias wrasses, parrot fish, clown fish, garden eels. Etc..

Site Name: Fish Head

Location: Mid Ari Atoll 

Features:
A deep and small pinnacle, top plateau depth of 10 meter30 ft fairly well in size to explore around in one dive. The atoll bed 40 meter-120 ft in depth. One side of the pinnacle a drop off with a big over hangs a base line of 35 meter/ 110 ft 

Coral Growth: Basically hard coral, black coral generally the site for bigger fishes Friendly Napoleon, Sharks, Hawks bill Turtle, Tuna, Schooling Jacks, Groupers, Rainbow runner.. etc…

Fish Life: Napoleon, Sharks, Hawks bill Turtle, Tuna, Schooling Jacks, Groupers, Rainbow runner.. etc..

Site Name: Maya Tila 

Location: Mid Ari Atoll 

Features:
A small pinnacle which top reef is very shallow in 10-15ft /3-5 meter in depth. One end of the reef with an over hang and most part of the reef goes slope down to a bottom of 2-35 meter/80-110ft. two huge pile of rocks sitting on the side of the pinnacle away from main reef. 

Coral Growth: Hard Coral, Gorgonian, Black corals. 

Fish Life: Sharks, Schooling Barracuda, Schooling Jacks, Snapper, Trumpet Fish, Octopus, Lion Fish, Scorpion Fish, Parrot fish, Bennett fish and etc..

Site Name: Rasdhoo Channel 

Location: South East of Rasdhoo Atoll 

Features:
Tributary channel a ridge running towards the channel continuing from the main outer reef- top of the ridge goes on depth of 15-18-21-27 meter/45-60-70-80 ft. One side of the ridge forming a sandy bottom bay at a depth of 24 meter-75ft and other side goes a drop off down to the deep sea 0-70 meter/180-220ft in depth 

Coral Growth: Healthy coral grown on the side of the wall forming gorgonian & black corals top the ridge healthy acropora on variety. 

Fish Life: Generally for schooling bigger fishes, Tuna, Grey Reef Sharks, Hammer Head Sharks, Schooling Jacks, Napoleon, Great Barracudas, Groupers, Eagle Rays. Many more

Site Name: Digali Haa 

Location: Mid Baa Atoll 

Features:
A deep pinnacle sitting in the mid – Atoll top plateau 10 meter/30 ft in depth and goes down to the atoll bed depth of 40 meter/120ft . One side of the pinnacle goes slope and three other side goes drop off forming, huge pile of rocks just lying on the side wall, forming run through and canyon. 

Coral Growth: Healthy coral growth, hard corals on top reef and soft corals on side wall & black corals and gorgonian. 

Fish Life: Schooling Jacks, Sting Ray, Sharks, Barracuda, groupers, fusiliers, Needle fish, trumpet fish, scorpion fish, lion fish, and Murray eel. Many more

Site Name: Nelivaru Haa 

Location: Baa Atoll 

Features:
A very shallow pinnacle, top reef 3 meter/10ft narrow and long which each side a drop off down to 35 meter/110ft the west side a sandy slope bed of 25 meter/75ft 

Coral Growth: Hard Corals, Hat Corals, Black Corals 

Fish Life: Manta Cleaning Station, Dog tooth Tuna, Sweet lips, Snappers, Garden eel, Scorpion Fish. Many more

Site Name: Faimini Tila 

Location: Mid Baa Atoll 

Features:
Small & Shallow pinnacle which top reef 21 ft -7 meter in depth. Which one side goes drop off with some over hangs and the other side goes sandy slope to an atoll bed of 35 meter/110ft. Either end of the pinnacle huge rocks sitting on the side wall. 

Coral Growth: Good on hard coral at top table coral & acropora, on the side wall black corals a and gorgonian and soft corals. 

Fish Life: Grey reef sharks, Barracuda, Tuna, Snappers, Yellow snappers, scorpion fish, lion fish, butterfly fish, Bennett fish. Many more

Site Name: Bathala Giri 

Location: North Baa Atoll 

Features:
A huge pinnacle, top plateau very shallow in depth 3ft/1meter which one side facing small polls and the other side goes down to the inside lagoon- base of the pinnacle is running a bottom depth of 35 meter/110ft . 

Coral Growth: Patch Anemone, Soft Coral, Hard Coral, Brain Coral, Horny Coral 

Fish Life: Napoleon, Turtle, nudi branch, Sting Ray, Rainbow Runner, Emperor Angel, Lionfish, Murray eel. Many more

Site Name: Gagandu Tila 

Location: North Baa Atoll 

Features:
A huge pinnacle, sitting at the entrance of a pass- top reef shallow in depth of 21-24ft/7-8meter. Once side of pinnacle facing down to the deep sea and the East side of pinnacle goes slope down to the atoll bed 40 meter/120ft. Rocks and small caves at a depth of 18 meter/60ft. 

Coral Growth: Healthy hard corals, fully covered on top reef- table corals, finger corals, black corals, sea fan 

Fish Life: V.Good- Fusiliers, Rainbow runner, Turtle, Tuna, Eagle Ray, and Grouper many more

Site Name: Anemone City 

Location: South Raa Atoll 

Features:
A huge shallow pinnacle, which able to explore ½ on a dive. The either end of the pinnacle goes slope and side wall a drop of down to the atoll bed 120ft/40 meter. 

Coral Growth: Fully live soft corals on the top platen and entire platen is a field of Anemone in variety. Side wall full covered with patch corals, gorgonian, black corals and spongy corals.

Fish Life: Napoleon, Red Snappers, Sting Rays, Yellow Snappers, Barracuda, Trigger fish, Needle fish, Trumpet fish, parrot fish , dimsel and gobies. Many more

Site Name: Gothi Tila 

Location: Mid Raa Atoll 

Features:
Very huge pinnacle, sitting in the entrance of a tributary pass half of the pinnacle manageable to explore on a dive. Side wall drop off with over hangs and slope goes down to the deep sea a depth of 45 meter/35ft 

Coral Growth: Hard corals, some hanging soft corals under the over hang Brain corals on top reef 

Fish life: Especially for honey comb Murray eel, surgeon fish, schooling snappers, lion fish, groupers, schooling butterfly fish, Bennett fish, Anemones. Many more

Site Name: Fehengeli Corner 

Location: North Laviyani 

Features:
Outer reef drop off wall goes down to the deep sea 60-70meter/180-210ft in depth. Huge cuts and over hang at the depth of 75-100ft / 25-30 meter 

Coral Growth: Healthy soft coral and top plateau covered with hard corals, black corals on the side walls and at the bottom of entrance gorgonian and Wip corals & sponges. 

Fish life: V.good Sharks, Tuna, Napoleon, Rainbow Runner, snappers, sweet lips, Jack fish, lion fish, Turtle and many more

Site Name: Oshala Tila 

Location: East Laviyani Atoll 

Features:
A small pinnacle in top depth 8 meter-24ft. The side wall goes down to an atoll bed of 35 meter/110ft small caves on the side wall. 

Coral Growth: Fair Growth with Hard corals and table corals. Finger corals 

Fish life: Sharks, Schooling Jacks, sweet lips Titan trigger, Barracuda, groupers, yellow snapper, soldier fish, many more

Site Name: Felivaru Wreck 

Location: West Laviyani Atoll 

Features:
A heavy Cargo Ship 150meter/450ft on length sitting on the side of the reef putting the bow of the ship above the water. The stern of the ship sitting at the bottom of 35meter/110ft. A sister ship is lying down on the side 70 meter/200ft away from the main ship at a bottom of 35 meter/110ft on a side of shallow reef. 

Coral Growth: Tubastrea, Soft corals, Acropora, Patch Coral 

Fish Life: Grouper, Anthiers, Sweepers, Bat fish, sweet lips, golden snappers, fusiliers, barracudas, lion fish, trigger fish, mid night emperor, turtle, Eagle Ray, many more
